Deathadder review! L0lk

Introduction

Razer is a high-end computer gaming peripherals company that has been supplying gamers all over the globe with peripherals ranging from high performance mice, sleek & smooth mouse pads, crisp sounding audio devices and 'Hyperesponse' keyboards.

In this review we will be taking a look at the world renowned Razer 'Deathadder' and what it is that makes it so popular.

Under the Deathadder, you will find 3 Ultra Teflon feet at the tip of each end providing excellent glide and motion when using it, while additionally making it less likely to wobble. You will also see the '3G' sensor placed at the centre

In depth look

Since the beginning Razer have been making ambidextrous mice which enable both right and left hand gamers to use it, this changed with the introduction of the Deathadder. The Deathadder is ergonomically designed for the right hand user, thus making it more comfortable for prolonged hours of gaming. The left side of the Deathadder also curves inwards providing somewhere to position your thumb, allowing you to hold the mouse with a tighter grip.

The top of the Deathadder, including the Mouse1 and 2 buttons, is made of one piece and is coated with a non slip rubber finish, ensuring some form of grip even in the sweatiest conditions. The two mouse buttons are also slightly beveled providing more support and comfort for your fingers. The bottom of half of the Deathadder is made of a shiny black plastic

On the left side of the Deathadder just above where you would place your thumb you will find two large side buttons.

The 3G infrared sensor is Razer's new generation of Gaming Grade sensors, which is capable of doing a lot more than the typical red LED design. A higher resolution can be attained - in this case 1800dpi. This was not very common at the time of release. The 3G sensor also enables you to use it at a very fast paced level as the new sensor deals with 'negative acceleration' ensuring even the fastest movements at the lowest DPI setting will be perfectly read.

The Deathadder also comes equipped with a gold plated USB connector, which ensures excellent conductivity and longevity, as opposed to the typical mouse USB connector, which uses nickel that wears away more easily.

Drivers

Included with the Deathadder is a Driver CD, which once installed and opened will look something like the picture above. Once you have opened the software, you will have the ability to map all the mouse buttons to customized controls of your desire. The drivers will also give you the option to change the polling rates and DPI on the 5 profiles stored on the mouse.
Note. It is recommended using a resolution of 1800 dpi as the Deathadder is known to sometimes malfunction when using lower settings. So for people who would have liked to use the 900pi or 450dpi settings, simply halve or quarter your sensitivity accordingly.

Using the advanced settings of this software, you will be able to change the sensitivity of the X and Y axis individually and there's also an option to use driver acceleration.

Performance and Comfort

I use the Deathadder as my main mouse, it is hard to give an unbiased opinion. However, I will outline some of the elements that stand out, that may be of interest to someone thinking of purchasing a mouse. One of the features that stands out the most with this mouse, is its reliability. Provided you have a decent mouse pad, the Deathadder will track almost flawlessly despite how fast or slow you may use it. Another feature of the Deathadder that stands out is its durability; the overall build quality of the mouse is of a high standard and is very sturdy, everything is perfectly put together with no flimsy or unnecessary parts that rattle when moving the mouse around.

As for comfort, the Deathadder is extremely light and very comfortable, this is primarily due to the raised back and the slightly curved shape of the exterior. The Deathadder's raised back helps those who like to 'palm grip' their mice, having said that it is just as easy and comfortable to 'claw grip' it. If there is anything that could be improved with Deathadder it is adding non slip plastic on the sides of the mouse, as some cases where your hands get a bit too sweaty it can be annoying trying to grip the shiny plastic on the side of the mouse. Overall, this is an extremely comfortable mouse and after using it for quite a while I have never encountered any kind of mouse fatigue.

Conclusion

I believe this mouse to be one of the best mice currently available on the market, if not the best. The overall combination of performance, design and durability along with many other features, are second to none. If you are on the market for a right-handed mouse which is optical, light and affordable, I cannot recommend anything other than the Deathadder
